We Cannot Change the Weather
One thing that you learn very quickly living in Nova Scotia is that the weather is a general topic of conversation. It doesn’t matter if it is sunny and beautiful, foggy, rainy and windy, or a snowstorm. Inevitably, after the words, Hi, how are you? The next sentence is a comment on the weather.
One of our favourite sayings about the weather has always been ~ if you don’t like it, wait 20 minutes.
Being surrounded by the ocean other than a small portion attached to New
Brunswick by a bridge, the Atlantic Ocean and the prevailing winds are the deciding factors on what weather we will have.
I remember saying many times, Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to plan an outing or a special event and know that the weather would be nice? Well, I learned that you have to be careful what you wish for.
I did not get that wish while living in Nova Scotia, however, we lived in the south of France and, from June 1st to mid-September, not a drop of rain touched the ground; it was unbelievable. You could plan a BBQ for 3 weeks away and know that the weather would be fine.
I would not have believed it but I was watching the
sky and hoping for rain about mid-July as it was so boring and predictable. Can you imagine living somewhere that is hot and sunny every single day? Perhaps it is a dream come true for some people but I didn’t like it one little bit. I wanted the weather to change. Read more »
